3 My voice You shall hear in the morning, O Lord;
In the morning I will direct it to You,
And I will look up. (Psalm 5:3 NKJV)
Starting each day with scripture and prayer is a sure way to kickstart your day the right way. When we wake up eager to consume a breakfast of God’s Word, meditation on that Word and pray we set the foundation for the day. Yes, we may still stray, but with such a foundation it is far less likely. Furthermore, you can set your day before God, pointing out places in your day where you may need extra help from His guidance. Structuring our day first thing in the morning to be lived for God and with God can help us preemptively combat the enemy and our own pride.
For me, in the quiet of the morning there is a reverence that helps me settle my mind and form a better mindset for the day. I have done this for so long now that I am not sure I can start my day any other way. I used to work out first thing in the morning, but I have found so much more value in my morning quiet time. Yes, exercise is important, but I do not believe it is more important than my spiritual exercises.
Reflect on: How you start your day. Is it eager for God‘s word and time with Him? If not, maybe give it a try.
