34 And behold, all the city came out to meet Jesus, and when they saw him, they begged him to leave their region. (Matthew 8:34 ESV)
Reflection, looking back over the week, can be a funny thing. Well, not funny, ha ha, but funny sad. I think this is why taking our Sabbath and adding an element of reflection is so important. Rest, reflection and renewal is what Sunday, the Sabbath should be about. Well, and add in a splash of worship!
In our scripture today, Jesus had just driven the legion of demons from a man into a herd of pigs. The people of the region should have been praising His good deed and asking Him to stay and do more. But what do they do? They ask him to leave the region. Instead of being amazed they were afraid.
Do we practice a form of this? Do we find ourselves asking the Lord to go away, to leave us alone. I do not mean that we do this with some form of knowledge of doing so, we would probably never do that. But we do so in our actions. We turn away and decide to just go our own path. We do not actively curb our sin and we live according to what ever the day or week works out to be, which is rarely in our spiritual favor.
Reflect on: Are your actions and thoughts asking the Lord to go away?
