Desires of Your Heart

4 Delight yourself in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart. (Psalms 37:4 ESV)

Simple question today, do you know what your heart desires?

Before you answer with your wants, what is the true deep desire of your heart? Can you really articulate it and know with some certainty that it lines up with God’s desires for you?

You see, we often cannot really even answer the first of this question. We do not begin trying to find the answer in the right place. The place to find this answer is in deep prayer and meditation. It has to come from a place that taps into the Holy Spirit within and is driven from God’s plan for our life and then for our desires.

Let’s say, the desire of your heart is to live quietly in the country (it is one of mine). We need to consider if that is where God wants us. He very well may want us there and have something we can do from our quiet place. Just because the desire feels selfish may not mean it is wrong. It could be coming from the Holy Spirit knowing that solitude could do more for our relationship with God and make us far more useful to Him. Where God leads may be for us to have a broad impact or could be for us to grow deeper in our walk of solitude, and through that depth be a conduit for others.

Reflect on: Have you even had that frank conversation with God about His desires and yours?
