What we Hold Back

But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back for yourself part of the proceeds of the land? While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not at your disposal? Why is it that you have contrived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to man but to God.” (Acts 5:3-4 ESV)

Why do we hold back from God?

It may be in our giving or in how we spend our time. It can even be a squandering of the gifts God has given us He expects us to use for His kingdom. Do we not see that nothing we have is truly ours? Do we not realize that what we store up on earth will pass away?

We look at our lives as if they were this great block of time that can seem endless. But if you truly understood the difference between the timeframes of your life on earth and eternity, would you not be wanting to store up for the greater? Instead we focus on what retirement will be like, not what eternity will be like.

Reflect on: Where are you truly storing up? What are you holding back? What do you need to give more to God?
