Wages

Now to the one who works, his wages are not counted as a gift but as his due. And to the one who does not work but believes in[a] him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness, (Romans 4:4-5 ESV)

Wages are something all of us well understand. Now, there can be a lot of argument over what is right or what is enough. In fact that is a topic that probably comes up every day in every place of business to some extent. If you are a hiring manager you may have to negotiate both with your employer and a prospective employee about wages. To be sure, it is a give and take (pun intended).

However, God looks at wages very differently. We may well know that the wages of sin is death, but through Christ we can be forgiven of our sins and have everlasting life. If you do not, today is the day to come to this saving grace and knowledge. But also, God through Christ, counts our works as righteous wages. Once we come to His saving grace all that we do to further the kingdom is counted as righteousness, even for us who know no righteousness.

Reflect on: Your wages, both your work pay and how God considers wages.
