14 but Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 19:14 ESV)
Did Jesus mean that only children would enter the kingdom of heaven? No, but He was saying that we needed “child-like” faith.
Often our maturity and education make it hard for us to follow some pretty basic scripture. We let what we know, or what we want, to get in the way of what we should be doing. We are involved in the things of adulthood and we may not want to make room for God’s simple plan for our lives. I mean, we may be very influential people with a lot going on. Who has time to sit with God and bow a knee?
Yes, we need to be more like little children. We need to sit quietly with God, listening for His still small voice. Desiring to be near him like a child to a loved parent. We have to come to Him with such a simple and humble nature that puts no barriers in the way of God’s love. And we need to feel His security wrapped around us like a loving embrace.
Reflect on: How much are you letting your maturity get in the way of God’s love?
