Contentment

Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5 ESV)

In what way do you look toward your life and find contentment?

If you are looking for things of this world to offer contentment you will never find it. In fact, absolutely everything we have will pass away with us. It will all be distributed to others when we are gone and everything that we bought and we thought would make us happy will just be gone.

That may be disconcerting to you. There may be many things in life that you take comfort or pleasure in. The safety and security of our homes. The relative comfort of loved ones. The false security of our bank accounts. All of these things are fleeting. We take none of them into eternity.

Would it not, then, be fair to say that we should take a closer look at the last of today’s scripture. Consider putting our security and contentment in the one who said “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” That is pretty profound coming from the God of the universe.

Reflect on: Where do you derive a sense of contentment? Is it lasting?
