10 Create in me a clean heart, O God,
and renew a right[a] spirit within me.
11 Cast me not away from your presence,
and take not your Holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation,
and uphold me with a willing spirit. (Psalm 51:10-12 ESV)
This little three verse segment of scripture is one that I think we should keep on our lips daily. What better way to start our day by asking God to create something new within us so that we begin with the end in mind.
The problem with most of us is that we can barely spare the time to look at what today brings, much less eternity. However, from a spiritual standpoint we need to renew our spirit daily so that we do not falter throughout our day. The enemy and the world will do all in their power to distract us from our daily bread, which should be God. But how often do we wake up each morning thinking either of our selves or the work before us that day. Our eyes are fixed upon the tangible and not the spiritual.
I think this the most important reason to begin the day in the Word and with prayer. I have been doing so for such a long time that I really do not know another way to begin. And if that routine gets messed up in any way I find myself craving to get back on track before I do anything else.
Create in me a clean heart, O God…Restore to me the joy of your salvation and uphold me with a willing spirit.
