1 O Lord, my heart is not lifted up;
my eyes are not raised too high;
I do not occupy myself with things
too great and too marvelous for me.
2 But I have calmed and quieted my soul,
like a weaned child with its mother;
like a weaned child is my soul within me. (Psalm 131:1-2 ESV)
After the hustle and bustle of a busy family time over Thanksgiving, we may need to calm ourselves and quiet our soul. To be so calmed our soul as to be like a small child with its mother. This is a good practice for a few days before we get back into the next work week.
Furthermore, it may be good to take a step back and not immediately put our thoughts to the harder things before us. You see, when we slow down and leave some space for solitude, we invite God into our lives to open new pathways of understanding. Many times when faced with a difficult problem I have stepped back away from it all to allow myself some peace and solitude. This gave me time to think about my problem in a different way and allowed God to assist in the problem solving process.
And when times are good and we are at peace in our lives, we should be giving ourselves the gift of solitude. This gift can have many positive outcomes as our minds take a break from the normal pace and we breathe in a deep silence that can be very healing. God can more easily speak into our souls when we take these breaks.
