3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, (Ephesians 1:3 ESV)
What strikes you about our scripture today? Take a moment and reread it slowly.
It is not just the message of blessing, which just before Thanksgiving should be heavily upon our minds. No, not just this. It is the tense used here, “who HAS blessed us in Christ”. Let that sink in.
Our scripture is all about how our God and Father has already blessed us. Yes, in relation to salvation, but also in relation to our lives as a whole. It does not matter what state you find yourself in today, if you have come to Christ, you are blessed with every spiritual blessing. This may not mean you are wealthy or healthy, but it does mean that in heavenly and spiritual places, you are rightly blessed.
We can so easily look at only the problems in our lives and not recognize our blessings. Life is hard, there is no doubt there. But beyond the physical, God has so much for us to be thankful for. We must seek each day, not just on Thanksgiving, to be thankful for all the Lord has and is doing for us.
