Sit and Soak

4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
    and his courts with praise!
    Give thanks to him; bless his name!

For the Lord is good;
    his steadfast love endures forever,
    and his faithfulness to all generations. (Psalm 100:4-5 ESV)

Do you prepare for worship? I must admit, I typically do not. I go to the church on Sunday and have not prepared my heart and mind for the service.

I am realizing that I need to spend more time preparing myself for a service than I currently do. We need to enter His gates with thanksgiving and praise, so we are prepared to bless His name.

Many go to church to sit and soak. They are not there to actively participate and that is a shame. I say this with much humbleness and self incrimination for not doing so. I go desiring to hear a good message on scripture, this much is true. My wife is the singer of the family and she enjoys the music much more than I do. But all elements of a service are meant to put our hearts in a right state to praise and worship our God.

Worship needs to mean more to us than to simply sit and soak in the church pew. We should be actively engaged in the service, making notes, thanking God for the message and lifting our hearts up to Him.

Consider a change in your approach to this and future Sunday services.
