19 If in Christ we have hope[a] in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied. (1 Corinthians 15:19 ESV)
Many years ago I was debating the veracity of faith with someone who was clearly seeking answers. This person asked me a very pointed question, “But what if you are wrong? Everything you believe will have been wasted and for nothing. You have lost everything!”
I responded, “But what if I am right? I have gained everything!”
The end of that conversation has stuck with me for many years. I have since lost touch with that person and have no idea whether they ever came to faith. I planted seeds the best I could and it all came back to me this morning reading this short but most interesting line of scripture.
It is true, if our hope in Christ is in this life only, and there is no salvation or eternity, then we are to be most pitied. But if that hope is as well founded as we believe, we have gained everything!
Reflect on: Are you willing to accept that your hope in Christ is everything? It’s all are none!
