1 O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you;
my soul thirsts for you;
my flesh faints for you,
as in a dry and weary land where there is no water. (Psalm 63:1 ESV)
Yesterday we talked about putting our hearts into our seeking God. Today’s scripture takes this a bit further and tells us that we need to seek Him earnestly. Doing so as if our soul is thirsty and our flesh faints for a closer relationship. It is beyond a desire, and becomes an obsession in our lives.
Most are not willing to seek God this fervently. They have their Bibles and go to church, but beyond that and a little prayer they figure they are good. Hey, they are being good people and have accepted Christ, what more is there to do? Well, yes, God gives us the freedom to be comfortable in a superficial relationship with Him. But this is not what He seeks, no. He wants an intimate relationship with you. He wants to see that you take it seriously and desire not to just be good, but to be a servant who is seeking to do His will and spread His good word. To show that our relationship with Him is so strong that we cannot wait to tell others.
This is where the idea of being earnest comes in. Seeking God earnestly is going beyond the superficial. It is digging deeper into scripture and spending more time in prayer to develop a closer daily walk. It is desiring God to be in our heart, mind and soul, to permeate us fully. In this way our lives begin to reflect God in everything we do. We have no hold outs and are fully committed to His good will.
So do a bit of an assessment today and determine if you are truly seeking Him earnestly.
