13 You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. (Jeremiah 29:13 ESV)
Do we really seek god with all our heart?
I think not. Yes, we may incline our ways to the Lord, but we are focused more upon our own desires and not what God wants. We are selfish, selfish creatures.
Seeking God with all of our heart means that we put everything in our lives through His filter. We do not look for personal gain in our every activity. We are more giving and caring, much more loving. Because, in the end, God is love. If we are not practicing love at every turn we are not seeking God.
Life can divert our focus and keep us thinking of only our needs and what we need to do to provide for ourselves and our families. There is nothing wrong with wanting to provide for ourselves. However, it cannot be an overwhelming desire and it must be one bathed in love for God first. We we seek to love God first, praise Him and thank Him for what we have, we are typically given more than we need. But this love must be sincere, not a seeking after treasures from a genie god.
Seek Him and you will find Him. But put your heart into it.
