Far More Abundantly

20 Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, (Ephesians 3:20 ESV)

When we think about how we want Christ to change our lives we are looking at what He can do FOR us. However, He is looking at what He can do IN us. And what He is able to do is far more abundant than all that we ask or think.

We, too often, take the work of Christ in our lives and try to work it to our advantage. We make it about what we are doing and not what He is doing. This can be from a lack of Christian maturity or it can be from a selfish nature. Now, some of you might have bristled at that. You may feel like I am being too hard talking about selfishness and a lack of maturity. However, most of what we do, even in our walk, boils down to some form of selfish pride. We are not nearly as altruistic as we think we are.

The concept “humble ourselves” is used frequently in the Bible, because God knew we would need a strong dose of humbleness. He knew that our nature is to be focused upon self and self alone. Thus, so much scripture points to a humble heart, a loving nature and what we are doing for others. Self rarely comes into it, except for how much God desires for us to have a personal relationship with him.

We need to read today’s scripture and know that what Christ is able to do IN us is far more abundant than we can imagine.
