41 Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (Matthew 26:41 ESV)
We have every form of temptation around us. The world is full of things that pull us ever away from God. The enemy devises situations that are meant to lure us away. In all of this the flesh is weak.
This is why we must overcome the flesh through Christ. We cannot hope to combat the many temptations around us alone, we are not strong enough. However, the more we resist the stronger we become, but the reverse is true too, the more we give in the weaker we become. We can only grow in our strength and create a strong will when we continually turn away from sinful acts.
This giving in does not always have to be something that is carnal in nature. We often give in to the sin of being overly busy or distracted. We have things that we put before God and we must continually work toward living a life where we focus more upon God than ourselves and our selfish desires.
Look, we may not realize it but the flesh tends toward sin. It is only through strengthening our spirit that the flesh can be overcome. This is a daily battle and one that is not necessarily easy to fight. The flesh wants what the flesh wants. But the spirit coupled with The Spirit can win out.
