Ransomed

18 knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. (1 Peter 1:18-19 ESV)

The Online Dictionary defines Ransomed in this way; obtain the release of (a prisoner) by making a payment demanded. To release (a prisoner) after receiving payment. Hold (a prisoner) and demand payment for their release.”mercenaries burned the village and ransomed the inhabitants”

Do you realize you were a prisoner? You had been sold to sin and were living your own personal cell in this world until Christ came into your life. Or maybe you are still living there without even realizing it.

When Christ paid the ultimate price for our sins He expected that we would walk away from them and live a new life. In fact, this is the demand made of your life and the expectation set before us all. However, God gives us free will as well and He desires that we make the right choices in this life so that we honor the ransom paid for our lives.

And this ransom is everlasting and not perishable. Christ paid the price due once and for all for all of us, for all time. He did not remove your one big sin. No, He paid the price that removed them all from the smallest misstep to the greatest failure of your life. He covered them all with His blood.

So we need to live a life worthy of the ransom paid.
