18 For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. (1 Corinthians 1:18 ESV)
Have you ever encountered someone who simply thought that the words of scripture were foolish? They did not understand its message, nor could they see God displayed in the words. A belief in Christ is needed for the scriptures to be opened to one’s understanding. Thus, our scripture today notes that its words and the cross are folly to those who are perishing.
This is why we need to have a strong ability to explain our faith, an ability to be an apologist. If we do not how can we bring the Word to those most in need!? We also need to realize that the power of God resides in the scriptures we read. Not only the exceedingly great power to save, but the power to change our lives in every way.
Thus, we are the foolish ones if we are not utilizing scriptures power to change who we are and how we live. It has power over the sin’s that remain prevalent in our lives and help us to grow in our faith. The Word power beyond our understanding but within our grasp.
