4 Riches do not profit in the day of wrath,
but righteousness delivers from death. (Proverbs 11:4 ESV)
We put far too much stock in the ability of our wealth to keep the darkness of this world at bay. The reality is that when things go sideways in a society wealth rarely saves people. More so, with God, our riches or wealth have no bearing upon our standing with Him. When the end comes we are welcomed into heaven only based upon our believe in Christ. No amount of riches will buy our way in. We will be judged upon our faith.
While we have to put money aside so that we can have something for a rainy day or for retirement, it should not consume us. God wants us to be about His work and to rely upon Him for our well being. This, taking our hands off the wheel, does not always feel great. What we have to do is shore up our faith and be willing to walk forward without really knowing what tomorrow might bring.
The promises God provides in scripture can be a firm foundation when our foundation is not feeling solid, nor the way forward clear. Trusting in these promises can help build our strength as we wait to see what God will do for us and in us.
