6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. (James 1:6-8 ESV)
How much of the trouble we encounter is because we are unstable in our ways?
God calls on us to have a faith that is stable and focused on both His precepts and His plan for us. Now, you may say, “I do not know what God’s plan is for me.” Fair enough, but we cannot let this destabilize the aspects of our faith. We need to continue to be focused and strong, sticking to the scripture and basing our faith on God’s promises. There will be times when God’s promises are all we have to stand on. But there is strength there.
When our ways become unstable, it undermines our faith. The enemy creeps his way in and starts to chip away at the foundation of God’s promises. He likes to call them all into question and give us reason to doubt. But these are all from the enemy and must be fought as well.
When our minds begin to be unstable and create questions that only have faith answers, we must learn to stand on that faith. Otherwise we can find ourselves questioning even God’s existence.
Do not let any double-mindedness slip into your thinking.
