Every Moment

15 Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.” 16 As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil. 17 So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin. (James 4:15-17 ESV)

We think we have a lock on what will be happening this year, this month, this week, today. But this is arrogance and evil. We have no real idea what will be asked of us in the next moment. We have only our plans, which amount to little if they are not God’s plans.

This is especially true when we know the right thing to do and then do not do it. This too is sin. This is willful sin and it is often born out of habit. Habits in our lives get so ingrained that we begin to overlook them as the possible sin they create. We go about our days and sin creeps in even in how we plan our lives. When we are not taking God into account in our plans we are setting ourselves up for failure.

It may seem hyperbole when I say that we must have God in every moment, every plan, but it is not. We have the Spirit dwelling within, how then can we ever hope to have a moment that does not account for God’s presence in our lives. He is here now, with us, waiting patiently to be asked to be part of every moment, because He too gives us free will.
