32 Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. (Ephesians 4:32 ESV)
Kindness is a trait that this old world is sorely lacking these days. Why is something so simple and so valuable so hard to find? It would seem that kindness would be a natural first go to for us, but it often isn’t. No, typically the first go to for most people is, “what’s in it for me.”
We have, more and more, become a self-absorbed people. We want what we think is ours, or what is owed to us first, then we will decide if we will be kind. In some cases, anger and confrontation is the first go to.
Think for a moment about how you might have sinned yesterday. The day before. Last week. Last month. Last year. God has forgiven you all those sins if you have come to the saving grace of Christ. What do you have to be anything but kind about!? You have been forgiven more than you could ever forgive in others. So let kindness be your first response.
Yes, we as Christians should be first responders in kindness. Our go to should be a state of humble grace that breeds an empathetic kind and loving response to those around us. We show the love of Christ in all we do and people seek us for this kindness and love.
