30 But when he saw the wind,[a] he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.” (Matthew 14:30 ESV)
We hold a biker church twice a month, and as part of that service we take new prayer request and pray over old. The list of physical, emotional, and financial request seems to only grow. We do have many that we see answered and I am able to move them into the “Praise” section of the list. But it is always outweighed by the needs.
Common in a fallen world and even more common with the age of many of the people who attend. We regularly see people crying out, “Lord, save me” in their request for prayer.
It is not that these people do not have faith. No, it is that they are immediately in pain and seeking God’s provision, security and comfort. I have two friends who recently lost jobs and I find myself praying, “Lord, save them”, because I worry about my friends.
People seek Him regularly to be saved from this situation or that. God hears our cries and while He may not respond in the way we expect, He does respond to every believer’s prayers.
But more than anything He desires that we not look at the wind and waves around us, but focus fully upon Him. It is then when the hand comes quickest to save us from sinking.
