Rendered Powerless

For we know that our old self[a] was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin[b] might be rendered powerless so that we may no longer be enslaved to sin, since a person who has died is freed[c] from sin. (Romans 6:6-7 CSB)

It would be nice if once we came to Christ saving grace and accepted salvation we could no longer commit sin. However, we live in a fallen world and sin is a part of this life. However, we do not have to be slaves to sin. God’s saving grace rendered sin powerless so that we may no longer be enslaved to sin. It is our sinful nature that we must fight day to day.

The enemy will put every form of temptation in front of us. The world will give us every opportunity to commit sins. From the simple sin of anger which can flare up at any moment to many other possibilities. And know, that God does not put a scale on sin like we do. There are no small and large sins, there is just sin.

We know that Christ salvation was to wash us of past and future sins. God knows that in this world we will not be without sin. But we must strive to suppress our sinful nature and we can do so, but only with the Spirits help. Our sinful nature, the world and the enemy will all conspire against us. Then, when we have slipped, it will all condemn us for what we have done. This is how the enemy works to undermine our faith.

Just know that while God does not condone sin he does not condemn us if we are saved. His grace and mercy are enough for us. But we must choose to strive toward as sinless a life as we can live, knowing that’s sin has been rendered powerless.
