2 Then the word of the Lord came to Elijah: 3 “Leave here, turn eastward and hide in the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan.4 You will drink from the brook, and I have directed the ravens to supply you with food there.” (1 Kings 17:2-4 NIV)
Do you ever desire to just have God tell you directly, “go here, do this and I will feed you.” Just leave it all up to Him to provide your needs. In times of high stress we may want to just let go and let God take the reins of our life.
Guess what? You can.
Now as you look again at today’s scripture be mindful that Elijah did not sit down in the road and wait for God to wisp him away or someone to carry him. He still did the traveling. But God had him set up when he got there.
You can bet, if God is calling you to go he will make do for you where you go. But we have trouble letting go enough to let God do His thing. We want control and we want to know each step of the journey.
The problem with all of this is that when we plan out every step of the journey where is there space for God to work? Where is there space for God to show us His provision.
My daughter and son in law are missionaries. They rely wholly upon God’s support through others. We got to watch this directly this weekend when He supplied them a vehicle through a local ministry we are associated with. After moving back from the international mission field they have a toddler and one very old car. They also relied upon God’s provision around keeping that single vehicle running. Their lives are very much a study in God’s provision and I am humbled to watch it play out.
God will take care of us.
