Stand By

1 Now Elijah the Tishbite, from the Gilead settlers,[a] said to Ahab, “As the Lord God of Israel lives, in whose presence I stand, there will be no dew or rain during these years except by my command!” (1 Kings 17:1 CSB)

It can be exceedingly hard to stand by what we believe and harder still to speak the Word of God when we are surrounded by people who may not believe. It can even be hard when we are surrounded by believers who are of a different mind.

Elijah had such strong faith in God and belief that God would stand by His word that he proclaimed a drought, and it happened. Anyone who doubted his faith day one surely did not after the first year, much less the entire three and a half years before Elijah’s word (from God) ended it.

We may not be getting these types of prophetic judgements from God, but we do have His Word to spread and bring to the ends of the earth. No word of God will pass away before the earth itself ends, and even then it will go on.

We must be willing to stand by the scripture and know that God will fulfill what He has decreed. We need not worry about how He does this, only that we stand by His word and speak it boldly in word and action.
