9 For this reason also, since the day we heard this, we haven’t stopped praying for you. We are asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding,[a]10 so that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and growing in the knowledge of God, (Colossians 1:9-10 CSB)
Our prayers for one another are so very important. When I am troubled I will ask those closest to me to pray for me. The prayers of a righteous man availeth much, so the scripture says.
We should not just pray for another’s well being, but we should pray like Paul for others to have wisdom and spiritual understanding. Often this is more important than anything else we might pray. Having Spirit filled wisdom and understanding can bring us though many storms.
This act of praying for others provides something for the person being prayed for and the one saying the prayer. Both gain from the personal interaction with God. Both are blessed in the action. In this way we are walking worthy of the Lord and fully pleasing to Him. Prayer for others lifts us both up.
In our scripture today, Paul provided not only a recipe for praying for each other but what should be the expected outcome. In fact it can be best to pray our prayers for others with the expectation that they have already been answered and we are expectantly watching for the outcome.
Let us not stop praying for each other.
