Pleasant Words

2 Let another praise you, and not your own mouth—
a stranger, and not your own lips. (Proverbs 27:2 CSB)

24 Pleasant words are a honeycomb:
sweet to the taste[a] and health to the body.[b] (Proverbs 16:24 CSB)

When we edify another with praise, or are edified ourselves, there is a lift to the spirit and from the Spirit. The act of speaking positive words to others and having them spoken to us builds confidence and joy into our lives. This does not mean we go seeking praise, but we accept it when it comes. I do believe, however, we should be quick with our praise.

The business world is quick to condemn and slow to praise. Parents can be this way too. When we do not strive to build others up and recognize the small accomplishments we may undermine another confidence and trust.

We should seek to build into others lives with kind words of affirmation. Seeing to build them up and we should be careful in our criticisms. Praise in public, condemn in private. I use the term condemn here, but I do not like the word. There are many ways to help others improve without being condemning. Helping them to see a better path than the one they be on with words of encouragement. Condemning words seem so final to me, and I believe there is always a better path.

We should take praise with a humble heart as well, giving thanks to the One who makes what we do possible. All things are in Christ.
