15 For it is God’s will that you silence the ignorance of foolish people by doing good. 16 Submit as free people, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but as God’s slaves. (1 Peter 2:15-16 CSB)
It can be difficult to remain steadfastly good in light of how others treat us. But our freedom in Christ does not give us the right to do as we please. No, it means that we are living our life by a higher standard and that our freedom should lead to living better.
If only our doing good would silence the ignorance of foolish people. This part of our scripture can be disheartening. However, we must remember that God is working things out in His timeframe not ours. Additionally, we have to realize that no matter how bad things get, God wins in the end.
While we are here we must continue to do good, regardless. The outcome of our lives lived in this way far surpasses the seeming success of others who profit without God. We cannot compare ourselves or our lives to the worlds standards of success. The world makes success about money, power and fame. But God makes success about freedom from sin and salvation. He makes it about relationships, especially the one we have with him, rather than worldly things.
As odd as it might seem, our freedoms comes in our bondage as slaves to Christ.
