Pathways to our Soul

2 He lets me lie down in green pastures;
he leads me beside quiet waters.
He renews my life;
he leads me along the right paths[a]
for his name’s sake. (Psalm 23:2-3 CSB)

Gaining peace and comfort in this life can be a difficult task at times. The crush of our responsibilities and demands of life can leave us feeling worn out and weary. But God desires something calmer for us.

I think back to the many times as a child and even times today when I have the chance to lie down next to a stream. Listening to the gentle water pass by, resting in the shade or actually taking the time to lie down on green grass connects us to God. It helps us to understand all the natural things that God made for us to enjoy and to provide comfort in life to us.

We spend too much time holed up in our homes and office spaces. Driving our sealed cars here and there with the only connection to God’s creation being our quick forays from one to another. I truly miss when I can’t be outside more. Yes, it is summer in Texas and 110 in the shade, but being outside lifts my spirits.

It is these times that I feel God’s hand the most and that I can more clearly see the paths that He leads me along for His name’s sake. Taking time for God, in His creation, creates pathways to our soul that are so needed.
