10 So I take pleasure in weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and in difficulties, for the sake of Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong. (2 Corinthians 12:10 CSB)
Scripture challenges me at every turn. Today’s is no exception. I struggle in taking pleasure in weakness. In fact I am just the opposite. I take great pride in strength. I think because of this, God is forever showing me my weaknesses and putting me in situations where I must not allow the strength of my nature to persist.
For when I am weak, then I am strong. This challenge is ever before me.
When we take too much pride in our strength a humble nature has difficulty manifesting in our lives. We do it our way, in our time and in our capabilities (strength). Where is the space for God to work here? Let me tell you from experience, His space to work is only around us. We are often the big rock in the stream blocking the flow of the water. But water, like life, tends to wash over and around us. Soon we find we are dislodged and tumbling along if the force is strong enough. Often, in life, it is.
When we are not fighting God for control we find that His control is far superior to our own. Yes, we may feel out of control for a bit, but He always bring life back into control. We must simply let go of the reins a bit and allow God space to work on our behalf. This does not mean we let go completely, but that we allow enough lead for God to choose the path of least resistance for us.
