Hard Headed

…yes, I am.

Look, I have made your face as hard as their faces and your forehead as hard as their foreheads. I have made your forehead like a diamond, harder than flint. Don’t be afraid of them or discouraged by the look on their faces, though they are a rebellious house.” (Ezekiel 3:8-9 CSB0

…but God makes us this way for a reason different from our own stubbornness. He makes us hard headed so that we can stand against those who would stand against God. The question is not whether we are hard headed, but are we stubborn for God’s statutes?

My own personal stubbornness and hard headed ways are often just a sign of my own shortcomings. It is more reflective of a selfish nature than a godly nature. But, I too can be very hard headed when it comes to scriptural truths and my staunch beliefs. God is not a god of compromise. He does not wish for us to be weak or wishy-washy about things regarding His ways. It has been said that if you do not stand for something you will fall for anything. I, for one, believe this is very true.

It is not comfortable to stand against the world, and that is exactly how standing for God can feel. But would you rather have the momentary comfort of going along here on earth or the solid foundation of standing with God for eternity? This is where the human condition can make us very shortsighted. If you think now is all you have then you will probably opt for what you can get today. You are not playing the long game.

We must be hard headed if we are to stand against the world, which means we are standing against the enemy. We are looking to not win a battle, but win the war.
