15 but in your hearts regard[a] Christ[b] the Lord as holy, ready at any time to give a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you. (1 Peter 5:15 CSB)
C. S. Lewis said, “A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic—on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg—or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse … But let us not come up with any patronising nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us.”
The above is from my daily reading and really highlights someone who was ready at any time to give a defense to anyone who ask who Christ was. C.S. Lewis was a great man of faith but he came to faith late from a place that was 180 degrees the other direction. However, once coming to faith he wrote extensively on what it means to be a Christian. He not only gave a defense of the faith, he went on to propagate it through his writing.
We may not be on the road to becoming C.S. Lewis, however, we should be on the road to providing a ready response to our faith. Yes, for those we meet or those who may challenge us, but as importantly for those we come in contact with regularly. You see our true faith testimony is lived out in our daily life. Thus, those who see us regularly are watch more closely that we are living that life. I think this is especially true in our families and our work place. We must be the example Christ desires us to be in all our ways.
