5 Good will come to the one who lends generously
and conducts his business fairly. (Psalm 112:5 CSB)
I put a lot into my job. And while I am not a business owner, I conduct my business affairs as if I were. I focus upon selling a service within my business and doing so fairly and generously. I work hard, and expect my team to work hard, to fulfill our duties to the company. I strive to be diligent in the execution of my duties and want Christ to shine through my dealings with others.
Am I always perfect at this? No, I falter and fail just like anyone else, but it is never from lack of trying to do my best. Thus, I tend to be very driven in my business affairs. Sometimes to the exclusion of everything else.
One must act fairly and generously to themselves as well. When we let our business lives rule everything, we are not treating ourselves fairly or generously. A company will take every moment you are willing to give them, especially if you work in a salaried role. This is not a condemnation of any business, they are acting upon their own behalf and creating a profit through our efforts. There is no fault there aside from our own.
Balance in life can be hard to find. I do not believe that it happens daily but is a balancing of efforts over time. Some days are heavily weighted one way rather than the other. It is in seeking the balance and involving the Spirit in that quest that we can finally find it.
