10 Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth. (Psalm 46:10 NIV)
Holy Saturday marks the silence between traumatic events leading up to and including Christ crucifixion and the unspeakable joy of His resurrection. It represents a time for remembrance and reflection where, like the disciples, we stare into the void and feel the hollowness of a life without Christ. This will give way to the joy of Easter Sunday and Christ glorious resurrection. But today we sit in silence and look at our lives.
This silence between the holy days is an opening for us. It provides a chance, if we will take it, to really reflect upon our lives. To dig in and thank God for where we are and to reflect on how we got here. It is a chance to look back over the path we have trodden and look forward to the path that lies before us.
The silence too should open a void within us that we recognize can only be filled by God. It is a God sized hole. But the thankfulness and joy that He is already here and will be there with us through the end and beyond should begin to well up within us a joy unsurpassed.
Today let us embrace the silence of Holy Saturday and reflect on all these things and more.
