Turning Point

The angel told the women, “Don’t be afraid, because I know you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. He is not here. For he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples, ‘He has risen from the dead and indeed he is going ahead of you to Galilee; you will see him there.’ Listen, I have told you.” (Matthew 28:5-7 CSB)

In the passage just before ours, the women came to the tomb and found the stone rolled away and an angel sitting upon it. What an interesting and concerning sight that must have been. Then coupled with our passage their interest and concern gave way to inexpressible joy.

Like He had foretold, our Savior had risen!

What glorious news they had to take to the disciples. But when they arrived they were met with skepticism and doubt. The disciples has just spent Holy Saturday in stunned silence. They had lost their conquering hero and, I am sure, begun to give into despair. But soon they would see Him and their doubt would turn into a life long yearning to tell everyone the Good News.

Easter is a time for renewal and rebirth. It is a time for us to smile and long for our time with Jesus in eternity. Not looking to be there now, but longing for doing His will upon earth so that He can say to us, “well done my good and faithful servant.”

Today can be just another day, or it can be a turning point.
