Come to Serve

28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Matthew 20:28 CSB)

So many times during Christ walk with His disciples they expected him to begin to take over. They thought His coming marked a time when God would give them a great victory over their oppressors and begin to rule together.

While Christ life and death did mark a great victory, it was not a military victory. His victory was over sin and death and far greater than any military victory could have hoped for. His victory was over eternity, not simply a small marked period of time that conquerors might expect to achieve.

Christ came to serve not only his disciples but all of humanity. He came to show us the type of life He lead, so we could strive to mimmic His way. You see the enemy wants to tell you that you are to be served. You are the top dog and need people to bend to your will. But Christ tells us a different story. He tells us the meek shall inherit the earth. The first shall be last, and the last first.

Consider today Christ service was edified in His time before the leaders that crucified Him. He was quiet and lowly, not boastful. He spoke words of love in the face of adversity.
