Remove the Nail

46 I have come as light into the world, so that everyone who believes in me would not remain in darkness. (John 12:46 CSB)

Do we desire to remain in darkness even when we have come to the light?

Look, I get it, we all like doing what we like doing. Getting our way, doing it our way, making our own decisions. But how much of this keeps us in the darkness? How much of this means we fall short of God’s glory.

There is an old story about a couple who bought a house. The man they bought it from would only sell it if he retained ownership of a nail above the front door. They thought this odd, but it was a great deal on the house and they took it.

The next week they came out to find a dead animal hanging from the nail. Each day they took what ever was hung there down, but the next day some other terrible thing was hanging there. Because the man owned the nail they could not remove it and ultimately had to leave their nice new home, losing all they had.

When we leave a nail that the enemy owns in our lives he takes great pleasure hanging something terrible on it every chance he gets. That nail has to be removed. We cannot leave it there to allow the enemy a foothold in our lives. Because he will continue to take and take and take until there is nothing left of us.

We must remove the nail and allow God to cleanse our lives.
