Responsible

11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put aside childish things. (1 Corinthians 13:11 CSB)

There are some pretty funny video’s out there of people throwing fits. It seems that our society has accepted childish behavior as a norm. This is probably because there are not the repercussions that once existed to counteract this behavior.

Yes, I grew up in a time when “throwing a fit” had immediate and painful results. But today that is no longer politically correct. I know some will disagree with me on this and find my ways backward and ill-informed. I can live with that.

You see, even scripture speaks to the fact that there is some point where we need to put away childish things. It also speaks about repercussions and does not mince words about it. But our society has gone soft.

Beyond tantrums, we embrace a lot of other childish behavior. We no longer have to grow up and learn adult things and do hard things. And when we don’t we are coddled instead of expected to mature and deal with our circumstances.

Am I being harsh here…probably. But I come from a time when we were taught early that life is hard and one must grow up to live it well. There is one concept that represents all of what I am talking about here and it is learning to be responsible.

God calls us to a responsible life.
