61 Another said, “I will follow you, Lord, but first let me go and say good-bye to those at my house.”
62 But Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.” (Luke 9:61-62 CSB)
How much looking back do we do regarding our lives?
Maybe it is to what we think is a better time. Or maybe it is about when we were healthy, or more wealthy. Maybe it is looking back upon bad choices we made, or continued to make.
Looking back only serves one valuable purpose and that is to make sure that we are not making the same old mistakes.
But looking back upon our lives before Christ, really, is of very little value. Especially, if we are looking back to some sinful behavior fondly. You see, the enemy makes all of that very enticing. He wants us to look upon our old sinful life fondly and look upon a godly life as something that is too difficult or boring. However, if we are living it correctly it is anything but.
Once we have put our hand to God’s plow there should be no looking back. We must keep our head up and focused on moving ever forward toward the Kingdom.
