Walk a Mile

17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Give careful thought to do what is honorable in everyone’s eyes. (Romans 12:17 CSB)

There is a lot of stress out there. This stress is leading to anger where people can find no common ground. We do not seek to do what is honorable, we are self-seeking and self-absorbed.

When we follow the second part of our scripture we can find ways to live life in a way that honors others. Seeking to build them up and not tear them down.

I know I write about this a lot, but I have become more and more about building others up over the years. I have always run service organizations and it is really easy to get frustrated with people doing this. People are not always appreciative, and often it is impossible to do things fast enough for them. It can wear on you over the years.

But, when I give careful thought to do what is honorable to another, seeking their good will through good action, that I find peace. Because even when I cannot find a way to please another person, I am at peace with my efforts on their behalf.

We never know what another is going through when they respond in anger to us. We must walk a mile in their shoes before passing judgement.
