Wisdom, Revelation and Knowledge

17 I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father,[a] would give you the Spirit[b] of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him. (Ephesians 1:17 CSB)

Our pastor began a new series on Ephesians the other week and this week some of the scripture he used really spoke to me. Paul’s letters are some of the greatest messages in the Bible, and Ephesians is a good example.

I thought about those who may read this devotional and I began to think how I need to pray for each of you. I also realized that I need to deepen my prayer life and spend more time really praying for others. Really, just more time deepening my walk in every way.

Praying for the Spirit of wisdom, revelation and knowledge in the Father is a very powerful prayer. There is much contained in those three words. When we are given wisdom and revelation on a topic we must ask what we are doing with such knowledge. For knowledge without action is useless.

Paul was expecting the church at Ephesus to gain this Spirit given wisdom and revelation and act upon it, not sit on it. How often do we learn of a thing and then do nothing at all about it. Maybe it is someone in need and we think, “someone else will help.” Or maybe it is gaining some new insight to scripture that the Spirit has provided and we tell no one about it.

As we gain this knowledge, it is in the application where we live out our faith.
