37 Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise, exalt, and glorify the King of the heavens, because all his works are true and his ways are just. He is able to humble those who walk in pride. (Daniel 4:37 CSB)
Sometimes God has to humble us because we are too prideful for our own good.
Luckily, He does not typically do so the way he did king Nebuchadnezzar. You see, God made it so that ol’ Neb was driven from his people and lived and ate like the cattle of the field. He humbled him in the most visible way.
Today, many times, we get humbled through business, medical or personal situations that “put us in our place.” But make no mistake, especially when one like the king exalts himself above God there may be humble pie to soon eat.
Daniel is one of my favorite books of the Bible. To watch Daniel’s high’s and low’s really depicts the true nature of life. How we can be up on top one moment, and struggling in a valley the next. God kept Daniel very humble and made sure that all that he received from kings did not create pride in him. Daniel is a study in strength, fortitude and character.
Dealing with our own prideful nature can be a difficult task, especially for the very successful among us. But deal with it we must. For, if we do not, it just may be that God will.
