Wholehearted

Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. These words that I am giving you today are to be in your heart. (Deuteronomy 6:5-6 CSB)

What happens when we truly love someone completely?

Have we ever loved completely? With all our heart, soul and strength?

We may. But far more often we love passively and conditionally. We do not go all in, even with God. Also, our love may be dependent upon how we feel or how things are going. So that type of love becomes conditional.

But wholehearted love, this type of love is unique.

We often save it for that one special person, if we can find them. But too often our love is compromised. It is compromised by our human nature and is not allowed to develop fully, or does not love completely. It may be ham-strung by past hurts. It may be gauged on give and take.

But this is not the type of love scripture calls us to. No. Ours needs to develop into a full and unconditional love of God. A knowing love that accepts all things that God sends our way, the good and the bad. It has to develop into a wholehearted love.
