13 He has rescued us from the domain of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of the Son he loves. 14 In him we have redemption,[a] the forgiveness of sins. (Colossians 1:13-14 CSB)
This time of the season is, typically, a time of joy. We can look forward to Christmas and the coming of a New Year. Yes, it is very commercialized and in so many ways has been taken over by mass marketing. But a deep joy should be welling up within us. A joy that comes from the place of knowing why we truly celebrate the season.
I do not know if you came from a place where you feel you were rescued from a bad life. I know my life has been pretty good. Yes, I was rescued from my sin to be sure through Christ salvation. But I was young when I came to this saving grace and had no great life change in the process.
I know those who Christ truly did rescue out of very bad lifestyles. Their joy at being rescued knows no bounds. But those of us who did not have such a life change should really look more deeply at our lives. While some had epiphany’s many of us must mark the many small changes since we came to grace. And there are so many things I can look at that Christ rescued me from and so many He continues to rescue me from.
Regardless, rescued is rescued. From that point it is up to us to live out our salvation with all joy.
