The Judge

2 Therefore, every one of you[a] who judges is without excuse. For when you judge another, you condemn yourself, since you, the judge, do the same things. (Romans 2:1 CSB)

What is the old adage, “when you point a finger at someone, there are three pointing back at you.” Steven Covey coined, ”We judge ourselves by our intentions and others by their actions.” Many church bodies can be accused of being hypocritical because they judge others based upon the ”do as I say, not as I do” rule.

I think in our business dealings we are continually being judged by what we produce. Often far less than how we treat others. Too many times I watch projects that can be judged by the number of bodies left in their wake.

In judgement is where we need the most humility and truth about ourselves. It is where we must first point the finger at our lives, our actions and our thoughts. Are we so sure we are in a place to even render judgement and in doing so are we more so condemning ourselves? Do we ever consider first how we might help improve a situation before we judge it.

Our actions often betray our feelings. We condemn others out of hand with judgements that are probably less than completely informed.
