Do Unto Others

12 Therefore, whatever you want others to do for you, do also the same for them, for this is the Law and the Prophets. (Matthew 7:12 CSB)

This very basic golden rule has often been modified to ”do unto others, before they do unto you.” What a hard way to look at life.

This is one of many examples where scripture gets manipulated to others ends. In fact scripture, through the ages, has continually been changed, misquoted, or taken out of context to serve as a source for personal ends. It is used to serve a purpose different than intended. But the Bible also warns against adding to or taking away from The Word.

It is much like how we modify our behavior to fit our desires. We change who God made us to be to fit in or to fulfill a desire that goes against the life we were meant to live. So we do not even do unto ourselves as we should, much less others.

This requires a daily inspection of both how we live and how we treat others. Are our actions in line with scripture and the leading of the Spirit? Are we living for God or living for ourselves? Are we showing others the love we were meant to show in our every day actions? Do we care?

And in that last question lies the root of everything here. Because, as a society we seem to be drifting further and further from caring.
