True Joy

1 How joyful is the one
whose transgression is forgiven,
whose sin is covered!
How joyful is a person whom
the Lord does not charge with iniquity
and in whose spirit is no deceit! (Psalms 32:1-2 CSB)

Let me ask a simple question this morning. Are you living a joyful life?

Look, I get it, this is not necessarily an easy question to answer. I mean, do we really even understand what joy is?

People can tell you about brief moments of happiness, or if they are lucky, even periods of happiness. But joy? They are not often as clear on even how to define joy.

Our scripture today gives us some level of insight into where we can find true joy. And the good news is that it does not have to be a fleeting thing. It is something we can carry with us throughout each day. We can even experience joy within pain.

Also, this basic understanding can be expanded to include all of the other promises God gives us through scripture. And from these sources of joy we can begin to find the broader joy in all of life which leads to happiness.

It is time we allow some joy to seep into our difficult lives. To live as if each day were a gift and not a drudgery.

It is time we experience true joy.
