Learning to Rest

12 “Do your work for six days but rest on the seventh day so that your ox and your donkey may rest, and the son of your female slave as well as the resident alien may be refreshed. (Exodus 23:12 CSB)

Why do we have so much difficulty in finding rest?

I mean, part of it is that we never slow down enough to rest.

Also, if we let it, our technology is constantly making noise notifying us of messages, updates, social media and countless other, probably, meaningless information.

The sabbath should be our day of rest like our scripture tells us, but even that day ends up being hectic.

If we ever hope to get close to God we have to find time to turn the world off and truly rest. To reflect upon what He is doing for us and to allow our bodies and minds to be refreshed. If we do not the candle will soon burn out. And we know we are burning it at both ends already.

We have allowed the hectic pace of life to rob us of our priorities. We put the wrong things first and live life in a constant state of tension.

This tension will not be relieved if we do not take time to prioritize its relief through rest.
