15 For I do not understand what I am doing, because I do not practice what I want to do, but I do what I hate. (Romans 7:15 CSB)
It is so very easy to find ourselves pulled away, doing what we do not want to do and not practicing how we want to live. This is the plight of a fallen man living in a fallen world.
I believe that it is harder than ever today to retain our focus.
Everything vies for our time and our attention. While technology may ease many parts of our lives, it has also sped up our lives as well. We are never alone because of the never ending stream of notifications we receive.
The enemy has also found that while he is keeping us distracted with our technology, he can also attack our minds. What we see through social media make us envious of others. We are burdened with the stress of all of our things, all of our responsibilities. He has found he can keep our minds ever moving and never resting, tearing us down, depressing us, creating anxiety.
Then there is the desire for ever more. Our focus gets fixated not upon what we have been blessed with, but what we think we need. We look to possessions or to experiences to make us whole.
But we will never be whole with the God sized hole that is within us. It was created to be filled with one thing. Not technology, not comfort or security, not stuff.
No that hole is only filled with God. This is were our focus should be, it is how we retain a proper focus on every other aspect of our lives.
